Finance Ministry, central bank try to agree on currency controls
MOSCOW, Sep 1 (PRIME) -- The Finance Ministry and the central bank are trying to agree on a mechanism of foreign currency control, Minister Anton Siluanov said on Friday.
"Currency control is a timely topic. The central bank used to be a very tough advocate of currency controls, the contrary was true for the Finance Ministry, we were more liberal. It has become the opposite: we stand for harsher measures of flow controls, because we know the situation. The central bank on the contrary took a more liberal position. But it is okay, I am sure that we will find joint solutions and will align the positions," Siluanov said.
Chairwoman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said that the currency restrictions should not limit economic activity in the country, and must be fine-tuned with only mirror-like restrictions kept in place.
